For Eighth Night in Monthly Series, CHURCH.
Residency Continues July 13th at DROM.

MdCL07.13.12

WHO: World-renowned DJ, Producer, Remixer, Composer, Musician, and Tru Thoughts recording artist Mark de Clive-Lowe (MdCL) returns alongside resident vocalist nia andrews (Janelle Monae/Common), Nate Smith (José James/Dave Holland) on drums and David “DJ” Ginyard (Estelle/Screaming Headless Torsos) on bass.

This edition of CHURCH features a special appearance by N’Dea Davenport on vocals.  Davenport is best known for her ground-shaking contributions to the acid jazz movement as a part of The Brand New Heavies, and has received great accolades for her collaborations with Madonna, Guru (Jazzmatazz), Sly & Robbie, Mark Ronson, Malcolm McLaren and Dead Prez. Also making an appearance will be The Twilite Tone, legendary producer/DJ from Chicago who has been electrifying dance floors since the mid 80's, walking the well defined lines between so-called 'House' and 'Hip Hop' music.  Tone is the Musical Director/DJ for Common, and recently contributed production to Kanye West’s hit song “Mercy”.

WHAT: Mark de Clive-Lowe continues to build on the success of his new CHURCH monthly series in New York at DROM. Previous installments have featured talented artists such as Rich Medina, Jose James and DJ Spinna performing to capacity crowds.

CHURCH is a whirlwind mix of live jazz, sampling and a DJ set. Fast becoming the discerning music-lovers’ and musicians’ event of choice, don’t be surprised if you spot the likes of Master at Work Louie Vega or soul legend Leon Ware in the audience; Chris “Daddy” Dave, MC John Robinson or Miguel Atwood-Ferguson on the stage and the likes of Ge-Ology on the decks. The first live set showcases the jazz side of MdCL, blending standards, groove explorations and classic trio interplay with resampling, electronics and live remixing. As the first set draws to a close, the guest DJ takes over the soundtrack while the tables and chairs are cleared away for MdCL to flip the script with the second set - a unique blend of live electronica and live remixing - the jazz club colliding head to head with the dance floor.  This month, be prepared for sparks to fly as MdCL goes head-to-head with the highly respected DJ, The Twilite Tone.
