Frankie Rose

As a founding member, songwriter, instrumentalist and vocalist in Vivian Girls and drummer and occasional vocalist in Crystal Stilts, Frankie Rose has been an integral part of two of the most highly acclaimed and influential groups to come out of Brooklyn’s still-vital music scene in the past several years. Her solo project not only reflects the aesthetic earmarks of both those groups, but it also reveals her as a fully-formed artist in her own right.

Ms. Rose’s music is haunted by the ghosts of 60s girl group, Brill Building, and 80s and 90s noise pop in equal measure. It’s a spooky, lovely sound — Frankie’s ethereal yet affectation-free voice swirling in a sea of church-like harmonies over a bed of tambourines, bells, and propulsive drumming. Recalling in spirit such groups as The Aislers Set and Black Tambourine, Frankie’s music is both timeless and immediate, both deeply personal and completely universal.

U.S. Royalty

U.S. Royalty formed in 2008 in Washington, D.C. Built around the lifelong musical collaboration of brothers John and Paul Thornley, vocals/piano and guitar, respectively, and rounded out by Jacob Michael (bass), and Luke Adams (drums), the group has refined and expanded their collective vision since their earliest practices spent shivering around a single heater while ensconced in an abandoned trailer in rural Maryland. Volatility and explosiveness define their live performances andwhile taking cues from the players of old, they treat performances as feverish outpourings of rock ‘n roll energy and emotion.

Big Scary

Regularly lauded as one of Australia’s brightest young bands, Big Scary has spent the past 18 months racking up the kind of success most musicians’ dream of. Following the worldwide release of their “Four Seasons EP” and the Australian release of “Vacation” – which dominated Australian sales charts for most of 2011 – Iansek and Syme were nominated for 2011 Breakthrough Artist Of The Year by the Australian Independent Record Association and “Vacation” was nominated for 2011 Album Of The Year by Australia’s Triple J Awards.

In the U.S. the band has seen high profile synchs with a national AT&T commercial and on multiple episodes of Grey’s Anatomy. Big Scary has received early praise from music industry insiders and media such as Brooklyn Vegan, We Are Hunted, Parasites and Sycophants, Large Hearted Boy, and CMJ. Idolator recently featured Big Scary as their #1 pick of the 12 Up-And-Coming Pop Acts From Down Under, calling them “a genre-defying duo [who keep] fans and critics guessing by switching between garage rock, dreamy piano-pop and everything in between with uncanny ease.”
