Début Concert

Featuring music by award winning Juilliard composer Yuri Boguinia, performed by critically acclaimed pianist Vladislav Boguinia and musicians from The Juilliard School.

“Yuri Boguinia is an imaginative and talented young composer.” – Sofia Gubaidulina, composer

"Yuri has an exceptional musical imagination, melodies, harmonies and great ideas flow out of him like a gushing fountain.” –Daniel Kellogg, Professor of Composition at University of Colorado Boulder

"Mr. Boguinia is a born musician." - Keynes Chen, founder of the Flatirons Academy

Review of two pieces featured on the April 20th program:

“Nox Aeterna travails in the realm of volatile and grandiose externality. Acting as a physical force, Boguinia’s music assaults and pummels you, bruising your spirit into submission. Constructed for piano, French horn, and violin, Nox Aeterna — performed by the impossibly young and composed trio of Vladislav Boguinia, Trevor Nuckels, and Mariam Machaidze — highlights a pervasive antagonistic insistence, which heaps smacking and clawing strata, one on top of another. When the pounding intensity, created masterfully through swellings of dynamics and tempo, finally erupts into splinters of melancholia, Boguinia begins the process again. While only half a dozen minutes, Nox Aeterna feels like an epic peregrination through Dante’s layers of hell.”
– David Gunn with New Music for the 21st Century

“A Minor Prayer, played by pianist Vladislav Boguinia, is another piece that refuses to be ignored. While less contentious than Nox Aeterna, it blows like a tempest, traversing in vertiginous highs and lachrymose lows. A solitary note whispering becomes a torrent; stridency thumps and streams, refusing to be ignored.”
– David Gunn with New Music for the 21st Century
