Alfredo Lagos

Alfredo Lagos was born in Jerez de la Frontera in 1971, a time when Paco de Lucía had only begun to revolutionize flamenco guitar.  A few years later, the new concepts developed by the guitarist from Algeciras had inspired hundreds of young potential maestros, and contributed to triggering an unprecedented interest in the genre.  Lagos belongs to that generation, no question about it, but he has managed to stand out from the crowd.  Long years playing for the best dancers and singers, from Sara Baras, Manuela Carrasco, Manolete, José Mercé, Capullo and Estrella Morente among others, to Israel Galván and Fernando Terremoto, have given him knowledge, dimension and an open-minded approach.  His is a contemporary perspective based on the most classic Jerez-style flamenco.

Barbara Martinez

Barbara Martinez grew up in New York City performing in opera and theater. Originally from Venezuela, she comes from a lineage of Argentinian singer/actresses. After college, she received a scholarship to study flamenco singing in Seville, Spain. Barbara sings an eclectic repertoire of flamenco, Latin and world music with her own group in jazz venues, and recently at Carnegie Hall/Weill. Barbara currently sings with A Palo Seco Flamenco Company, Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana and Pasión y Arte throughout the U.S. She recently appeared in the documentary "Sobre Las Olas - A Story of Flamenco in the U.S." by Carolina Loyola-Garcia, as well as the "100 Years of Flamenco in New York" exhibit at the Performing Arts Library. She is one of few flamenco artists who perform regularly both as singer and dancer in local venues in New York City, such as The Wine Spot, Alegrias at La Nacional and Smoke Jazz Club.
