The BBC World Service had a talent search in 2008 called “The Next Big Thing” in which they named Tshila as one of the 20 best unsigned artists in the world. Her music was complimented by a BBC critic  as being “a perfect soundtrack to nice summer day" and "delightful”. Saying her song “Namboozo” and said “the mix of traditional African sounds with poetry and hip-hop works perfectly for Tshila" and "overall a conscious, upbeat vibe and the most original song in the competition”. Tshila is a socially conscious musician who emotionally expresses the depth of the content that she sings about.

Tshila was born in Kampala Uganda on 10 June 1983. She didn't grow up around musicians. She never had music on the curriculum at any of the schools she attended as a young student. However, her passion for music resulted in her being one of the most noteworthy talents from east Africa. She truly developed her musical talent after she finished her university education in the United States. She received a bachelor’s degree in software engineering in 2005. As a college student in America, she frequently spoke for African causes. Through the subtle and indirect influence of music, she wants to be a force of change in Africa.

After graduating university in the States, she returned to Africa with the hope of developing her music and fusing it with rich traditions to create a sound that transcends cultural boundaries with enchanting rhythms and conscious lyrics.

Her mother used to sing folk songs for her when she was young, which caused her to be keenly interested in her mother’s ethnic culture and music from the Gisu people of eastern Uganda.

Tshila began making music as part of Uganda's groundbreaking hip-hop group, the Bataka Squad. The group created a an international buzz about the power of hip-hop in changing lives of the underpriviledged in third world ghetto societies and gave birth to documentaries such as "Diamonds in the Rough", premiered in Hollywood and narrated by Michael Franti.

She later picked up a guitar and began to sing and experiment with her own sound. Through lots of experimentation and self education about African traditional instruments and guitar, she recorded her first album "Sipping From the Nile" which gained her immediate recognition with the BBC World Service among other World Music Critics. She began to perform in different venues in the capital of Uganda, Kampala and was noticed and supported by the French and Germany Embassy cultural bodies in Kampala. This included support of her performances at International Cultural Festivals in Zanzibar, Senegal, Germany, Austria to mention a few places.

In 2010, Tshila went on tour in Europe sponsored by the Austrian Ministry of Culture. Her musical blend of elements of acoustic soul with hip hop, African traditional folk music, jazz and spoken word poetry entranced audiences and got her to do collaborations with artists like Johnny Strange of Culcha Candela fame, and Stereotype from Vienna. She became an ambassador of the Afrika Rise foundation as well as the Bavubuka Foundation which both offer ghetto children and underpriviledged kids a way out of poverty through music and arts.

Tshila has been a regionally recognized World Music artist within the East African community and wants to take her music and African message of hope globally. There are few artists from East Africa that have a global name and she is focussed on being one of them.
