DIRECT FROM HAVANA, CUBA: THE JORGE LUIS PACHECO QUARTET

Hailing from Havana, Cuba, Jorge Luis Pacheco is a fiery young pianist with "flying hands." He has performed all over the world including prominent jazz clubs, theaters, and festivals such as the Blue Note Jazz Festival in New York earlier this year. Pacheco has recently been invited to perform at the Apollo Theater in October where a lifetime achievement award will be presented to Herbie Hancock onOctober 24, 2014. He has collaborated with the likes of Wynton Marsalis and the JLCO and Arturo O' Farrill. Pacheco is a virtuoso pianist, composer, arranger, percussionist and vocalist. Monty Alexander says that he "defies genre" often playing Cuban jazz, traditional Cuban music, original documentary scores, and a new violin symphony called "Andino" that he composed, which was inspired by Peru and Ecuador. Pacheco is a passionate, exciting entertainer on stage and constantly captures the audience's attention with his heartfelt performances and electric energy. Cab Calloway's daughter Cabella Calloway was one of those audience members who instantly became a fan and supporter. She has gifted Cab Calloway's piano to Pacheco because she stated that it's "what her father would have wanted." For the first time, Pacheco’s band will come with him Direct From Havana, Cuba and they will perform as a quartet.

"Jorge Luis Pacheco Campos left his mark on the evening. The bouncy Cuban showed passion and extravagance. Tapping his feet frenetically and playing at hallucinating speed, he thrilled the public."

-Montreux Jazz Chronicle

We have not heard a talent like this in years. They are already saying that he will be the one to save Latin Jazz and remind everyone that the greatest musicians with the most fire, are Cuban.

Wendy Oxenhorn

-Jazz Foundation of America

Pacheco is fast and furiously earning a reputation for being a gifted pianist, percussionist, composer and musical director, and his upcoming CD, ..produced by Chucho Valdes, displays his technical mastery and muical mastery.

José “Pepito” Gómez’s “ beneficent alarm” (The New York Times) of a voice has carried him on a fast track from playing with local bands in his hometown of Camagüey, Cuba to becoming lead singer of Maravilla de Florida, Charanga Latina Orchestra and Habana Ensemble, respectively. He’s toured with the late Compay Segundo of the Buena Vista Social Club and was a lead singer of the Cuban megaband, Pupy y Los Que Son Son, before moving to the U.S.

"The Cuban singer Pepito Gómez's vocal tone is ... a beneficent alarm, a positive shout." –
