Avram Pengas & The Noga Group

Avram Pengas' Noga Group has been a staple of New York's downtown music scene for nearly twenty years. The CD, "Santorini," is the group's latest effort (its first being 1983's self-titled "Noga") and lakes its name from the beautiful Greek island and the Greenwich Village cabaret that was filled, each week, with the exotic music of the Noga Group. But while Santorini, the cabaret, prided itself on its Greek heritage, "Santorini," the CD, ffers more diverse pleasures. Pengas' breathtaking Bouzouki and expressive guitar, Nick Mandoukos' exquisite guitar, Dick Barsamian's velvety oud, Lefteri Bournias' sultry clarinet, Zohar Fresco's dazzling percussion, and the melodic support of Emmanuel Mann's fretless bass combine to create a rich musical palette of the entire Mediterranean region and beyond

Belly dancer Julia Kulakova

Julia Kulakova blends the nomadic Gypsy spirit with the precision of Russian theater and dance training to transport the audience into realms of powerful and alluring female characters of Middle East, Persia, Balkan Roma and Bollywood. Her performances and choreography were featured on PBS and NBC; at Summer Stage, NY Fashion Week and Jacob’s Pillow. Julia is featured regularly at such high profile events, as NY Persian Parade, NY Gypsy Fest and the United Nations’ Indian Club Galas. Aside from shows, Julia shares the vibrancy of life through movement in her signature NY Gypsy Dance and Femme Vitale workouts at the 92nd St Y, JCC and Sarah Lawrence College. The Observer says, "...with Ms. Kulakova swirling and simultaneously tugging at the emotions of the audience, the night was one to be remembered." More info about Julia’s art, teaching and new projects is at www.nygypsydance.com
