Aivazovsky's Istanbul

Press Release :

" The art of Aivazovsky, the Russian painter enchanted by Istanbul, comes to life thanks to the Codex Art technique. Anjelika Akbar’s Aivazovsky Rhapsody will accompany the digital exhibition entitled Aivazovsky’s Istanbul at the Drom Hall in New York on 15 October 2015, 08:00 pm.

Comprising a digital exhibition and four books produced by Boyut Publishing, Aivazovsky’s Istanbul is a multi-media feast of music and a vast selection of the artist’s work that would have been impossible to exhibit together otherwise.

The exhibition debuts on 8 October 2015 at Feodosia, Crimea, the artist’s place of birth and his beloved city where he painted the majority of his work. Aivazovsky’s Istanbul later moves to New York on 15 October 2015 and to Yerevan on 24 October 2015.

Aivazovsky toured America, visiting Boston, Washington, New York and the Niagara Falls, one of countless American landscapes he painted. Some of his finest Istanbul canvases adorn the homes of American collectors.

Aivazovsky visited Istanbul eight times. He was entertained in our palaces by three Ottoman sultans. He depicted his beloved Istanbul in his best paintings. This digital exhibition showcases sixty-one of the over 200 Istanbul scenes he had painted, and the majority of which is now lost in the annals of history. An additional 300 of his most popular paintings are also on show. All accompanied by the Aivazosvky Rhapsody, specially composed by Anjelika Akbar… The digital Aivazosvky’s Istanbul exhibition is a display of augmented reality.

Aivazosvky is one of the leading artists of the common values uniting Russian, Armenian and Turkish cultures. Famous throughout the world, Aivazovsky remains one of the most popular painters in Russia, Armenia and Turkey."
