Ricardo Gallo Cuarteto and Ricardo Gallo
& Juanita Delgado Duo

Ricardo Gallo’s Bogotá-based quartet is formed along with some of the most active and creative Colombian musicians such as percussionist Juan David Castaño, drummer Jorge Sepúlveda and bassist Juan Manuel Toro, maintaining this line-up together since 2005. Ricardo Gallo Cuarteto has developed a varied repertoire reflecting multiple interests which can be appreciated in four albums of original music: Los Cerros Testigos (2005), Urdimbres y Marañas (2007), Resistencias (2010) and Tribu del Asfalto (2013), all of them included in the collective La Distritofonica’s catalogue.

Their music is nurtured by diverse traditions like Colombian musical folklore from several regions, traditional music from other countries of Latin America as well as from Africa, jazz from different periods, creative American music, contemporary Western music and free improvisation.

For this special performance at Drom and rare appearance in New York the quartet will play new unreleased music as well as selection from their discography.

Canciones internas y de otras partes (Songs from the interior and beyond…) is the meeting of traditional pieces from Latin America and other places with the modern and subversive language of singer Juanita Delgado and composer and pianist Ricardo Gallo.  A repertory that includes cuban cradle songs, pieces by Violeta Parra, afro-Colombian sung dances , songs in Portuguese, Euskera and English, as well as original compositions, is the pretense to weave social themes with love and unrequited love poems, the impotence and madness with sweetness, intemperance with yearning, all covered by a net of improvisation.

This project was developed in 2014 while Ricardo was living in Bogotá. In december of that year they made a recording at a beautiful hall in Bogotá. This performance at DROM is that recording's CD release celebration in New York.
