World Music Institute presents: Dance Around the World

Ever wonder why and how different cultures and traditions engage different body parts in their dance moves? Choreographer and dance educator Sarita Lou will take us on an interactive trip around the world of dance, sharing her knowledge as well as brief video demonstrations. The 50 minute lec-dem will be followed by a dance party to music from around the world, curated and DJ'd by WMI's artistic director Par Neiburger. Cash bar and age limit of 21+ with valid ID.

Sarita Lou is a choreographer and dance educator.  She is currently acting as Assistant Director on The Color Purple – the Broadway revival.  As a choreographer her work has been shown at The Bushwick Starr, Judson Memorial Church, Dixon Place, Playwrights Horizons, The Mint and Manhattan Movement and Arts Center amongst others.
Sarita holds a BA from UCLA's World Arts & Cultures Program, and has taught dance and movement at Columbia University, Barnard College and is currently on movement faculty at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting teaching for NYU/Tisch School of the Arts. As a dance educator Sarita's mission is to "Inspire the world to move."  With this in mind she created the original arts web series For the Love of Dance, documenting diverse dances around New York City.  More information can be found at www.loveofdance.tv.
