Kotoe Suzuki Farewell Concert
Kotoe Suzuki Quartet plays Afro-Brazilian/Latin Jazz, including Kotoe's vocal/instrumental original compositions that are eclectic in musical styles and diverse in emotional ranges. Kotoe Suzuki was born in Tokyo, Japan. She started playing the piano at the age 3 and was trained in classical piano. It was natural for her to improvise and compose music as a way of self-expression as a very shy child. In 2001, she moved to NYC to study Music Therapy at NYU’s graduate program. While working as a music therapist in NY, she worked with people who have diverse cultural backgrounds and was exposed to all the musical styles such as Blues, Jazz, Salsa, Samba, and Afro-Cuban. Soon, she started incorporating all her favorite musical styles/elements and finding her own voice.
Her songwriting and themes of tunes are embracing women's life as a whole.
She studied jazz privately with Dan Kaufman, Renato Diz, and Afro-Brazilian/Latin jazz with twice-Grammy nominee, Hector Martignon, and vocal with Christina Correa and Maria Quintanilla. She has performed with her quartet/quintet and other bands in several venues in NYC, such as Symphony space, Greenwich hall, and Nuyorican poetry café. This will be her farewell concert as she will move back to Japan in this February. Her first album will be released in this Spring.
