"Chiwoniso possesses the elegant expansiveness so typical of such African players as Hugh Masekela and West Nkosi." - Billboard

New York sax innovator Max Wild and Zimbabwe’s afro-soul diva Chiwoniso unite to create a soundscape that transcends cultural divides with their unique fusion of jazz, funk, and ancient Africa melodies.  Driven by the soulful sound of the saxophone and the mesmerizing textures of the mbira, the group is backed by the deep groove of an international all-star lineup from the United States and Zimbabwe. Wild’s spellbinding sound resounds with defiant strength and profound tenderness, finding its counterpart in Chiwoniso’s powerful vocals and rich mbira melodies. With saxophone melodies suggestive of the soul of Kenny Garrett and inspiration of Dudu Pukwana, coupled with vocals that recall the fire of Angelique Kidjo and the rebellion of Thomas Mapfumo, this duo embodies one of the most exciting cross-cultural collaborations in music today.

Performing material from Max Wild’s international break-through album ‘Tamba’ (ObliqSound) and Chiwoniso’s groundbreaking Cumbancha release ‘Rebel Woman’.
