The New York Bojaira Project

The fusion between Jazz and Flamenco is undoubtedly one of the most excitingmusical and artistic expressions emerging in the world today. The result, in thecase of The New York Bojaira Project, is a powerful combination of energy andsubtlety on stage. An original and versatile fusion, blending the depth and intensityof jazz harmony and improvisation, with the excitement of flamenco rhythms.

The core quartet is comprised of a combination of two highly regarded Spanish musicians from Andalucía, the home of flamenco, and two long time veterans of theNew York jazz scene. Pianist, composer and bandleader Jésus Hernández hasbeen an integral part of the Spanish music scene for many years. Born and raisedin Granada, he has performed with a wide variety of musicians and ensembles including Enrique Morente and Jorge Pardo, Rubem Dantas and Miguel Chastang. He has traveled the world, performing throughout Europe, South America andChina, in addition to touring in the U.S.A. Alfonso Cid, flamenco singer and flutist,is a multitalented and experienced musician and composer, originally from Sevilla, Spain, now based in New York. He has worked with renowned Flamenco guitarist Tomatito and has toured the world performing as a featured vocalist withthe popular Latin artist Romeo Santos, as well as performing with the Montreal Andalusian Orchestra conducted by Tom Cohen where he appeared alongside RabbiHaim Louk. Tim Ferguson (double bass) and Mark Holen (drums) are both long-time fixtures of New York City jazz scene who have performed for many years withsome of the most important musicians in jazz. Timhas performed and recorded with Don Friedman, Cecil Bridgewater, George Cables,Vanessa Rubin and The Vanguard Orchestra among others. Mark, has appeared with many jazz luminaries including: Phil Woods, David Liebman, Danilo Perez, Bill Dobbins and Machito.
