Rite of Rhythm: Eleanor Dubinsky, Os Clavelitos & Shelly Bhushan

Eleanor Dubinsky

“Then the voice - simple direct and honest. Its melody lifted me right out of the funk I'd been in. Great production, spacious grooves and deep feeling all around!” - Steve Sandberg (pianist, Emmy nominated composer)

Eleanor Dubinsky has found the tender edge where jazz, world, and pop sensibilities meet emotionally forthright songwriting. Singing in English, French and Spanish, she is currently performing music from her newly released third album
Soft Spot Of My Heart, laid down in studios in Lisbon, Portugal and NYC over the course of 2016-2017. Soft Spot Of My Heart is a globally savvy collection of songs highlighting Eleanor's potent vocals and embracing the musical colors and influences of a diverse group of collaborators from Portugal, NYC, Cape Verde and Brazil. Brought to the forefront in her live shows by her multifaceted band. To experience her performances is both heart opening and dynamically engaging.

“Eleanor's music is all about connection and empowerment. It makes me feel transported to a sandy beach, where I can be free and dip my toes in the water.” - Glamour Magazine

Showtime: 8PM

Os Clavelitos:

Os Clavelitos is a 7-piece "American Samba" band, based in New York City. The band's original music combines traditional Brazilian rhythms (Samba, Baiao, Bossa nova, and Frevo) with English lyrics. They also perform traditional and popular Brazilian songs in Portuguese. Os Clavelitos music celebrates community, inclusion and having fun! With members from Brazil, Japan and the US, Os Clavelitos represents coming together to blend culture and influences. Their performances are as welcoming as a leisurely Sunday feast, abundant with food, friends, dancing and samba.

Arriving by Os Clavelitos, in the samba/jazz category is another recommendation for 2016’s best of releases of the year. It has the beats, the harmonic nuances, and the winding melodies that take you over the hills and into valleys that make Brazilian music so interesting. The title track “Arriving” is like a drive through the countryside that takes you through different landscapes…” - Shutter 16 Magazine

" This crew shows the proper heart and feeling on their debut as they use it to usher in samba's second half century. Tasty, summer party music that swings and sways with just the right motion. Fun stuff throughout." – Chris Spector, Midwest Record

Showtime: 9PM

Shelly Bhushan:

Honest, soulful, empowering, beautiful...all words to describe singer/songwriter Shelly Bhushan. Whether she's singing about a growing house plant, a dying computer, or the City of NY, she expresses herself so honestly, so completely, that it often moves people to tears. Gifted with an incredibly powerful voice, Shelly draws on a depth of emotion that ranges from desire to defiance, longing to exhilaration. It’s as if her soul reaches out to yours when you hear her sing--real, without a trace of pretentiousness. Her sound is hard to pin down, but the inability to classify her is the very thing that makes Shelly's music so interesting.

“Shelly Bhushan’s music is something like a force of nature. It realigns things and it redefines the space they occupy.” – Rustzine

“Shelly Bhushan has an amazing, stunning voice and a great sense of identity as a songwriter and performer. Something Out Of Nothing is one of those records that you want to press into people’s hands and make them hear. It’s truly wonderful.” – Popshifter Magazine

“Shelly Bhushan’s voice is a true standout: soulful and feisty and full…”- The New Yorker

“She captures the attention of her listeners with a sultry, atmospheric voice and effervescent stage presence…” – The Examiner
