Rock Paper Soul
is a monthly event that caters to the genre of Indie Soul music. The event was designed to showcase up and coming and established indie soul musicians.

We feel that the market is over saturated with other genres while this brand of music is frequently over looked. However its still a force to be reckoned with by catching the attention of the Grammys, Soul Train Awards etc. Over the past few years indie soul has been introduced to some major musical players such as Eric Roberson, Sy Smith and Carol Riddick to name a few.

Our event is held in NYC where we feel the newer acts will get the recognition needed to make a major impact in the world of soul music. Our booking selection is carefully chosen to reassure patrons they get the best quality entertainment possible. All of the acts perform with a band and we accept no artists that have music tracked out.We embrace all forms of multimedia pertaining  to this field of music. The goal is to bring back the art of live performance and invoke the feeling of true emotion when listening to an artist.

We hope to gain your support on our journey.

Sy Smith has been called by her peers "the hardest working woman in show business"! It's no wonder. With 3 CDs, 1 EP, and 1 DVD released independently, she's the driving force behind the underground soul scene in Los Angeles. Her voice is known widely as the singer who duets with Al Green on the "Soul Food" show and for her TV work as a backing vocalist on shows such as American Idol. Sy has also written songs for Macy Gray, Carlos Santana, Ronny Jordan, Brand New Heavies, Gerald Albright and Mya among others. She has toured with Whitney Houston, Usher, Meshell Ndegeocello and currently Chris Botti. But what Sy truly loves to do is attack the stage with her feminine fervor and bring the house down with her style of funk. Her video "Fa Sho", is a hit on BETJ and her brand new live DVD "Worship At The Temple" is bound to be a hit among her fans worldwide! Born in NY and raised in DC/MD, Sy shows off her knowledge of jazz, go-go, with a tinge of classical training without disturbing the groove!

Music was always present in and around the Ferguson house, which led to Zo! taking piano lessons at age 6… which he absolutely despised. The idea of working toward a Major League Baseball career served as the greatest inspiration through his teenage years much more so than the concept of practicing music. After his parents consistently pushed and encouraged him to stick with music, Zo! discovered a newfound passion by teaching himself how to play piano by ear by age 11. Zo! got his production start in 1992 when his parents brought home a Proteus MPS keyboard and a Brother PDC100 sequencer for him to figure out. Since then, he has emphasized the use of live instrumentation as the blueprint for his music while constantly looking to expand his sound with each album release.
