KHAOSSIA Ethno-Ensemble from Salento (South Italy)

The Ethno-Ensemble Khaossia, founded by Luca Congedo and Viviana Calabrese, was born in 2005 in Cremona (MI) on demand of that public institutions and aeger people who love the folk
music of the South Italy, to have a band which could perform Salento and its musical traditions in the lombard city. The band is made up of several genres skilled musicians, for instance the ethnic one, in particolar focused on Salento's ancient music. Khaossia let many different musical traditions meet and blend together, starting from a marvelous love of the Irish and the Ellenic music. Their interest for the Space becomes stronger thanks to the attention and the respect of the Time, by suggesting a new style of some oldest, even forgotten, sounds. The unfathomed awareness of the historic, geographic and social culture which they grew up in is the background of this new approach to the musical traditions of the South.Khaossia works with the permanent project of the Young Politics Council of Comune di Cremona, called "Attraversarte",which allowed the band to organise live performances, dance and music stages and to record the soundtrack of a promotional video. The Ensemble has had great success among the most famous musical critic reviewes such as fRoots, Folker, Trade, Folkbuletin, Radio Popolare and Radio Onda d'Urto. The audience likes Khaossia so much, that the band boasts many performances abroad, in Croatia - Jelsa - in 2005, in France - Paris and Marseille - in 2006 and 2008, in Switzerland - Gugghinsberg - in 2008 and last october 2010 in the USA - Philadelphia and New York, but also in Italy, playing in the most important folk musical festivals such as La Notte della Taranta in 2005, Appennino Folk Festival in 2007 and Isola Folk in 2007 as well, Cambonino Folk Festival in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and Fek Festival in 2010.In 2007 the band record its first album "De Migratione" (About Migrations) - label CPC. In 2008 Khaossia took part at the Babel Med Music in Marseille and in 2009 recorded "La Rassa a Bute" - label CPC - an early XVIIIth century anonymous musical drama in the dialect of Lecce, whose musical manuscript has been lost. Khaossia wholly composed and recorded the music.
