Grammy Nominated R&B singer Syleena Johnson
Comes to DROM with Her 2011 Powerful Album Chapter V: Underrated

Invite Your Friends on Facebook!!

Imagine this: you’re a Grammy-nominated singer, considered one of the best vocalists of your generation, who has scored major R&B hits and been invited to collaborate with the likes of Kanye West and R. Kelly, yet some folks consider you “underrated.” This has been the plight of Syleena Johnson, acclaimed as one of the finest R&B voices to have emerged during the past decade. Having fought the major label system to allow her true identity to shine forth, Syleena now steps forward with her most personal statement to date. Her boundary-stretching fifth album, entitled, appropriately enough, Chapter V: Underrated, released September 27, 2011 on Shanachie Entertainment. Easily her best all-around album since her second best-selling album, Underrated shows the full range of Syleena’s talent as it moves from the powerful soul-balladry of songs like “Little Things” to full-on club bangers like the first single, “A Boss.” The result is a rarity in the R&B world these days - a true album that flows through a diverse and satisfying complete listening experience. Every song but one was written or co-written by Syleena.

“I’m calling this album Underrated because it was a name chosen by my fans,” Syleena explains. “Also, if you look in Webster’s, the definition of ‘underrated’ is ‘underestimated.’ I feel some of my counterparts in the industry have underestimated me, thinking I wouldn’t make another album past Chapter 2.”

Soulful, Innovative, Seductive and Hypnotic are just a few words to describe the artistry of the singer and songwriter named Rell. Rell's introduction to the world began when he started working with rap icon Lord Finesse which birthed his debut single titled, "Ghetto". In 1997, Rell was signed to Roc-A-Fella Records, and began work on his debut album which had been initially titled, Medicine. While signed to the label, Rell gained much attention as his vocals where heard on some the hottest records released by Roc-A Fella during that period. Best known for his contribution to Jay-Z's Streets Is Watching soundtrack and movie, Rell introduced his vocal ability to the world on the timeless club banger "Love for Free" , one the leading singles from the movie's soundtrack. During his stay at Roc-A Fella Records and while preparing his debut solo project, Rell went on to bless vocals on many of the labels heavy-hitters which include Jay-Z's "It's Obvious", Freeway's "Victim of the Ghetto", and Young Gunz "Better Love".
After leaving Roc-A-Fella Records in 2005, Rell continued to upgrade his artistry as he worked to solidify himself as a singer/performer and a songwriter. In 2007, he laced vocals on the legendary Pete Rock's single titled "That's What I'm Talking About" from the album NY's Finest. He is also credited for songwriting on Usher's Grammy Nominated single, "Here I Stand". While continuing to write songs for himself as well as other artists, Rell joined forces with Tre Williams and formed Tre Williams and The Revelations releasing their debut album titled "The Bleeding Edge" in 2009. Still a member of the group, Rell has spent his time putting together the elements needed to re-introduce himself to the world as an independent artist. With his seasoned talent along with his knowledge and experiences in the music industry, Rell is now ready for that transition back into creating timeless, quality music for the world to enjoy.

Co-Staring Tamika Love Jones

Born and raised in Washington, DC, the singer/songwriter Tamika Jones has finally come into her own. Growing up in poverty, Tamika turned to music as an escape from the harsh realities of drugs and violence that those around her so easily succumbed to. A young and timid Tamika, at the age of 11, was discovered when a classmate heard her singing a song so beautifully and ahead of her age and outed her to her teacher and classmates, who let her know that she could no longer keep her voice hidden. With one look into the eyes of Tamika Jones, you can see the love and passion she has for music and her people, and in her songs you can hear the pain, struggles and triumph that makes Tamika stand out like a rose emerging from the concrete. Finally, she is ready to walk her own path, as she shares her life, love, and passions in the only way she sees fit, through heartfelt lyrics and most enchanting melodies.
