Michael SLAVIN - Piano
Michael Slavin

I began playing the piano at age 5 and by the age of 9, attended the Juilliard School of Music preparatory division for the next 10 years. My undergraduate years were spent at Cooper Union in New York City where I studied physics. I then attended medical school, and was a full time practicing ophthalmologist in Long Island for 25 years.

During the time at Juilliard, I gave many piano recitals (two at Town Hall in NY City). At age 11 I performed  Mozart’s Piano Concerto in D major (the Coronation) with the Little Orchestra Society in Lincoln Center. Several years later I performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in the Brooklyn Academy of Music after winning a piano concerto competition (circa 1965).

My retirement from ophthalmology practice several years ago has afforded me the time to again study music and practice the piano seriously. Last year, I recorded the 4 Chopin Scherzi, and the year before that, all 21 of the Chopin Nocturnes. I look forward to continued recordings and future performances.  I was awarded first prize in the Chicago international piano concerto competition in May 2012 and was a finalist in another international solo piano competition in Washington, DC.

Ismet Ertas started making music at a very early age. He began learning classical guitar in Istanbul with Mr. Rafi Aslanyan and continued his studies with Carlo Domeniconi. Around the same time, he became interested in Flamenco music and started working with Ulvi Avsar. He also attended master classes by Paco Pena. He studied harmonics and music composition with Muammer Sun. He both composes music and writes lyrics. Both a musician and an architect, Ertas has devoted his life to these two fields of interest. He has given many solo concerts in Istanbul and Brighton, England. Lately he has been concentrating on his personal compositions. Currently, he is working in order to record an album of his own.
