Revive Music Presents
Generations of the BEAT

Drumming is undeniably one of the oldest forms of music — so old in fact that we can trace it as far back as there were things to bang on (read: forever). Consequently, drumming — and in turn rhythm — has become the backbone of everything that has evolved from the first humans to the latest Ableton session. With so much history and influence it's about time we gave the drummers some!

With all due reverence, respect, and experimentation we will be presenting Generations of the BEAT,  a two-day Drummer's Festival complete with an all-star lineup and accompanied by an online guide to everything you ever wanted to know about the legendary, innovative, and current realm of drums.

Join us in celebrating the work of Elvin Jones, sideman to Miles Davis (Blue Moods, Sketches of Spain), John Coltrane (A Love Supreme, Africa/Brass) and Wayne Shorter (Speak No Evil) among countless others as well as a bandleader in his own right. The equally influential Billy Hart will be paying tribute with a group led by Michael Feinberg.

Furthermore, we are incredibly excited to announce that Jimmy Cobb will be performing with us for what is sure to be an unforgettable performance. If you've ever heard Kind of Blue, Introducing Wayne Shorter, Cannonball Takes Charge, or Giant Steps you probably already know what we're talking about. Jimmy has been touring with Joey Defrancesco and Larry Coryell as well as some former Miles Davis bandmates for the past year and is sure to bring both experience and that special touch of innovation to his performance.

The full depth of the festival lies in the complete lineup including the likes of Mark Whitfield Jr., Joe Dyson, E.J. Strickland, Kimberley Thompson, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Lenny White, Andrew Cyrille with Oliver Lake, and more. There aren't too many chances to see this much history in one room, so be sure to come celebrate it with us!

E.J. Strickland
Drummer, composer, & bandleader

Drummer, composer and bandleader E.J. Strickland is most known for his work as a member of the long-lived quartet of Ravi Coltrane (along with Luis Perdomo & Drew Gress), and his brother Marcus Strickland’s celebrated electric/acoustic quartets and trio. He also leads his own bands, The E.J. Strickland Quintet & The E.J. Strickland Project. His playing has been described as emitting “fields of cumulative energy, clouds of feather-touch and heavy-handed syncopations, latent with power like an oncoming storm” (Thomas Conrad, Downbeat Magazine). His discography includes over 30 albums with various recording artists, as well as his long-anticipated debut album In This Day (Strick Muzik), released in 2009.
