Turkish Jazz Night with
Ece Goksu

Jazz vocalist and pianist Ece Göksu was born in Ankara, Turkey. Growing up in a family of musicians (her father is an opera singer/director and a director, her mother is the principal harpist of Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra) encouraged her to start taking private piano lessons when she was 5. Goksu's first professional step in her musical career was joining the Ankara State Opera and Ballet's Children Choir where she had performed in many operas such as "Tosca" and "La Boheme" and also participated in Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana".

After finishing elementary school in New York City, her family returned to Turkey and she entered Hacettepe University State Conservatory's piano department in 1993 where she had many recitals, chamber music concerts and performed with the H. U. State Conservatory's orchestra. She attended master classes with world re-known pianists Aysegul Sarica and Huseyin Sermet. She has a wide repertoire in classical music from J.S. Bach to O. Messiaen. Goksu also double majored in opera for one year.

In 2002 she moved to Istanbul and transferred to Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory graduating from the piano department. Prior to moving to Istanbul she had developed an interest in jazz and once in Istanbul she began singing in clubs like Kempinski-Q Jazz Bar, Nardis Jazz Club, Naima Jazz Club, Istanbul Jazz Center, etc. and performed in the International Istanbul Jazz Festival and International Afyon Jazz Festivals. Goksu also participated in concerts in Dubai and Budapest.

In 2007 Göksu was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and studied jazz vocal performance with Nancy Marano in William Paterson University in New Jersey, where she earned her Master of Music degree. During her education in WPU she gave recitals and participated in big band concerts. She also had the chance to study with Mulgrew Miller, Richard DeRosa and Cecil Bridgewater.

Göksu recorded her debut album, ‘Masal' (Fairy Tale) in 2012 which is released by A.K.Müzik in Turkey. She also participated in Yavuz Akyazici Project's first album "Turkish Standards Vol. 1" in 2011.   Ece Göksu both lives in New York and Istanbul, giving concerts and teaching jazz vocal and piano.
