September 11th Presenter Bios:

Jordan Motzkin


Jordan Motzkin is the Co-Founder and CEO of Big Box Farms, a NYC-based startup. The Company was started at the College of the Atlantic Sustainable Venture Incubator and seed funded through the National Science Foundation and US Department of Agriculture. Big Box Farms developed a breakthrough technology for the production of salad greens resulting in fresher, safer, and more nutritious produce. The company's technology centers on producing its crops inside industrial warehouses that are located near food distribution facilities, allowing the company to bring sustainable local agriculture to densely populated areas.Jordan has lectured on the intersection of entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainability at a variety of venues including Columbia University and the U.S. Japan Business Council. He has been interviewed and his work has been featured in Forbes, CNN Money, Mashable, CBS Television, Fox Business, and Net Impacts Principled Leader.

Dr. Sunil Agrawal


Dr. Agrawal Sunil K. Agrawal received a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University in 1990. He is currently the Director of Robotics And Rehabilitation (ROAR) Laboratory at Columbia University. He has published close to 350 journal and conference papers. Dr. Agrawal is a Fellow of the ASME and his honors include a NSF Presidential Faculty Fellowship from the White House in 1994, a Bessel Prize from Germany in 2003, a Humboldt US Senior Scientist Award in 2007, Best Paper award at the 35th ASME Robotics and Mechanisms Conference in 2011, and Best Student Paper Award at the IEEE International Conference in Robotics and Automation in 2012. He currently also holds the position of a Distinguished visiting professor at Hanyang University in Korea and the position of a "Professor of Robotics" at the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland. He has served on editorial boards of several journals published by ASME and IEEE.

Christos Nicola


Chris Nicola was born in England in 1951. He and his family immigrated to the US, settling ultimately in New York City. Chris is currently working as a Senior Investigator for New York State. Other jobs have included that of a union organizer, a police officer in Washington D.C., a bar manager and bouncer, adjunct lecturer, bodyguard, undercover investigator in the NYC schools, and civilian operative for the FBI.
As a graduate of three state police academies and recipient of specialized training from the FBI and NYPD his law enforcement career has spanned 35 years. He has earned undergraduate degrees in Criminal Justice, Physics, and Forensic Psychology; an MA in Criminology; completed post-graduate work while enrolled in a Criminology PhD program, and is currently pursuing a Forensic Science MS and Film BA.Chris has done numerous speaking engagements at schools, museums, community centers, synagogues, churches, and libraries, to include such places as: the 42nd Street Y in New York City, the Explorers Club, Oxford University, the Simon Wiesenthal Center, and the Illinois Holocaust Museum. His work has been covered by the NY Times, Chicago Tribune, LA Times, BBC Radio, National Geographic, Readers Digest, Christian Science Monitor, NPR Radio, and the John Batchelor Show. He has appeared on numerous local and national TV broadcasts, to include The NBC Today Show, CBS Morning News, and ABC World News Tonight. His work has been recognized by numerous organizations with awards from such places as the Explorers Club, the Long Island Science Museum and New York University Cinema Studies Department.

Beat Rhino 


Moonsoo Jo (born February 8, 1993) AKA Beat Rhino is an American beatboxer from Southern California. He started beatboxing in 2007 with his friend Eric Liu and have performed in high schools, a Hollywood club, Bboy competitions and other events ever since. He competes locally and internationally, having participated in the 2013 Grand Beatbox Battle in Switzerland and recently winning the 2013 American Beatbox Championship.Besides being an artist, Beat Rhino has organized four Beatbox Battles from 2010 to 2012 to promote the beatbox scene in California. He will be a junior in UCLA this Fall.

Nick Finzer


Award winning musician Nick Finzer is a jazz trombonist and composer whose musical prowess is firmly planted with one foot in the past and another leading to the future. In January of 2013 Nick released his recording debut as a bandleader "Exposition" on his new label Outside in Music. "Exposition" presents Finzer's unique musical lens, featuring ten original compositions that draw on the multifaceted influences that have shaped his musical development.
