8:15PM-8:45PM - CharlieRED

When two opposite worlds collide to make a musical union, you might get discord; You possibly could get resistance; Sometimes even embroilment; Or you can make a sonically harmonious musical acquaintance between two individuals in which spawned an inaugural interpretation of art and trials thru sound. Chauncy Sherod (aka Rocki Evans) and Cobaine Ivory, together make CharlieRED.

With the release of their latest project ‘MUSE.’, CharlieRED continues the stretch the boundaries of Soul with their Blues/Hip-Hop fusion. The dust still has not settled from their December 2012 EP ‘Religion’ and they waist no time releasing a new album 8 months later. The collaboration of singer/songwriter Chauncy Sherod and beatsmith/instrumentalist Cobaine Ivory continue to make creations that are being spread virally through word of mouth. With the idea that less is more, there is a message of freedom and intent through their music. They intend to invoke thought and inspire, while also giving you that sense of nostalgia that this has been missing for quite sometime; though something like this has never been heard before.

Since the ‘Religion’ EP, CharlieRED has synced their songs with Playboy, VH1 commercials, as well as the networks ‘Love & Hip-Hop New York’ show. With many of their show performances being sold out, they’ve shared the stage with the likes of Hiatus Kaiyote, Marsha Ambrosius, Big KRIT and Melanie Fiona amongst others. A CharlieRED show can only be described as energetic and electrifying. Witnesses to this unique experience included Erykah Badu, Estelle, Salaam Remi and A Tribe called Quest's, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, who compared their recent and upcoming successes to the incomparable, D'Angelo.

Their sound offers pure authenticity and truth, serving as a perfect representation of the greatest eras in music history. Cobaine Ivory, a classical composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist is the pulse for each song, crafting each instrument by hand. Chauncy Sherod compliments that pulse with raw, uninhibited vocals and lyrics with an unmatched vulnerability. With the ever-growing musical chemistry between these two, it’s safe to say they will usher us into a new yet familiar feel of music with their blend.

9:00PM-9:30PM - Maya Azucena

MTV Made’s Award winning singer-activist Maya Azucena is a global artist making music that matters. She recently joined a prestigious line-up of artists, including Jill Scott, Maxwell and Beyonce, at the 2013 Essence Fest in New Orleans, and was selected to showcase on the invite-only secret stage in the Grammy Museum, produced by BET for BETX. Self-described as sounding like “The Roots if fronted by a singer with 4-octaves,” Billboard and the Washington Post have heralded her mesmerizing performances, as well as the Village Voice that said,, “armed with a powerfully compelling voice, Azucena just could be the most impressive of the current hip-hop/soul/r&b diva crop.”

In 2010, Maya was heard on multiple tracks from the critically acclaimed album Pickin’ Up The Pieces by Fitz and The Tantrums. Her music has been featured on HBO’s The Wire and her likeness on NBC’s 30 Rock. Maya’s latest CD, CRY LOVE has been listed on several “Best of” 2011 lists including #1 on Pop Matters, and Amazon’s “Top Albums You May Have Missed.”

She recently performed at the world-renowned TEDxWomen Conference in Washington DC, and participated greatly in One Billion Rising, an international campaign to end domestic violence. Her critically acclaimed song and music video, “Dance Revolution”, was commissioned by One Billion Rising to inspire support of the campaign. Maya is also the proud Artist Ambassador for Bead For Life, an NGO based in Uganda, that empowers women in the most vulnerable states of extreme poverty to become business-women with sustainable skills, through jewelry making.

9:45PM-10:30PM - Sidewalk Chalk

With the release of its sophomore album, Leaves, Sidewalk Chalk continues to lead the contemporary evolution of hip-hop, soul, and jazz. The band’s roots are firmly planted in Chicago where all eight members bring their respective talents together to update a sound first heralded in the Native Tongues era but never so musically diverse. The group’s unique arrangement allows them to incorporate numerous styles seamlessly: an MC and female vocalist; a trio of keys, bass, and drums; a horn section with trombone and trumpet; and a tap-dancer.

In contrast to the 2012 debut release, Corner Store, this new album finds the group venturing into a grittier space and capitalizing on a subtle approach that is at times hauntingly beautiful. Leaves represents change, both the loss of something dear and the excitement of exploring something new. “The album is about growth, growing pains, and letting go of the past if need be,” states MC Rico Sisney. Vocalist Maggie Vagle adds, “It’s also about unfolding into a new color. Shedding to shine brighter."

Sidewalk Chalk has created a live show that captivates a variety of audiences. The group has already shared stages with ?uestlove, De La Soul, Action Bronson, Jean Grae, Hiatus Kaiyote and other notables. Individually, band members have acted as musical director(s) for Brother Ali, toured with Jazzanova and played behind Buddy Guy and Talib Kweli. Sidewalk Chalk was named "Most Outstanding Group" at the 2012 Chicago Music Awards, and its MC represented Chicago at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, China.

Sidewalk Chalk is: Rico Sisney (MC), Maggie Vagle (Vocals), Charlie Coffeen (Keys), Garrett McGinn (Bass), Tyler Berg (Drums), Jumaane Taylor (Taps), Sam Trump (Trumpet), and David Ben-Porat (Trombone).
