At This LucidNYC:

Dr. Amol Sarva left his PhD in cognitive science behind to start a series of ventures -- Virgin Mobile USA, the popular phone service; Peek, the simple smartphone; and recently a discussion platform app called Knotable. 12 years later he came back to an idea everyone had told him was nonsense, a way to make the brain work better and faster, in an instant, for the sick and even elite minds. His new cognitive enhancement technology called Halo Neuro, a neuro-stimulation device that boosts brain function by sending electromagnetic waves directly into your brain.

David Benjamin is the principal architect at The Living, and the Director of the Living Architecture Lab at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation. Along with his partner at The Living, architect Soo-in Yang, Benjamin has already created paradigm-shifting projects, such as Living Light, an interactive canopy in Seoul that reacts to air quality; and Amphibious Architecture, which communicates the level of pollution in New York’s Hudson River. These projects entice people to participate in their environments in new ways, while making them aware of how they’re constantly changing.

Dan Burkholder is a highly respected professional photographer and leading proponent for the acceptance of “iPhone” photography as high-art. True to his love of the traditional photograph, Dan uses digital technology to build images that still look and feel like real photographs, not like something from a graphic designer’s portfolio. His award-winning book, Making Digital Negatives for Contact Printing, is regarded as the most authoritative work in the field. Dan will show his work and share his secrets to making smartphone “snapshots” into breathtaking artwork.

The evening begins with live music from Gregorio Uribe, a Columbian musician with an energetic and innovative approach to the music of his country. Not to be missed!

What is Lucid?

LucidNYC is a cultural event series, which introduces New York audiences, firsthand, the work of leading innovators, creators, and thinkers. Held in a dinner-lounge setting the warm casual atmosphere is facilitated by the sounds of live music and clinking glasses. Attendees share drinks and conversations with presenters, friends, and strangers all with the same enthusiasm for inspiration and engagement. The music and social segment is followed by three short presentations on various subjects where speakers share their processes for exploring problems in unique ways which have led to original solutions.

Lucid is what you make of it - post-work inspirational refuge, mellow networking event, brainy dating opportunity, a chance to meet leaders in many fields, etc. However you define it, it is a good time and a change from the mundane.

Our mission:

Create inspirational, informative, and social events which introduce attendees to cutting edge projects by leading innovators who are addressing challenging issues of our time.
