“Like something out of a Benny Hill episode” that’s what Trotter says as he thinks about this journey he and the lovely #1 Sparrow Ms. Blount are on.
Imagine, taking a city girl gone International with just one song from a movie she wasn’t even originally scripted in, and an ex Army War Veteran who finds out that he has a talent to both sing and make people laugh, placing them in a room with no cameras, no make up, and no lights? What would you get? One word comes to mind, and that is ACTION!
“I wasn’t completely done with the industry but my purpose for being in the industry was changing and I had lost all zeal. Then I met this cool guy at a love festival. He was singing and playing the keyboard and I fell in love with his talent”. Blount had no idea that she would soon fall in love with the man or as John Legend would say “All of Him”.
Having some success in the industry with her accomplishments such as her debut album of the 90’s Natural Thing which highlighted the riveting single “Through The Rain”, and landing a spot in the movie Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit alongside the legendary late great, Mr. James Colburn and the incomparable genius of Ms. Whoopi Goldberg, she was all too familiar of what it would take to get back in the swing of things. And if she was going to take a crack at it again it would be with this guy at her side. Little did she know the story behind the man at the piano, and little did he know the depth behind the girl with the voice. Trotter, coming from a life of war would write songs to soothe the weeping soldiers, tunes to ease the troubled Iraqi children, and melodies that can be heard above the thunderous booms that would sporadically sound off at any given time. Ironically he wasn’t looking for love so he says, but another adventure that would propel him into the opportunity of a life time. Having no prior experience in the music business the closet Trotter would get to fulfilling his musical destiny would be a Military Singing competition in Baumbholder, Germany called Military Idol where he would take 1st place. So meeting Blount in 2010 would be the truest highlight of his career. 6 months after meeting, working together, and dating, the two would marry and make the greatest music ever, a son name Legend (After one of Trotter’s biggest influences). “I have always been blessed with the best from God. I thought to myself why would this time be any different. So I got up the courage and asked for her hand in marriage”. The two were married before but something about this union said “GOD IS LOVE AND LOVE IS REAL” helped them to erase the past and to cement the present moments we so often take for granted. Up until this point life was planned. Life was normal, and Life was predicted. In short the two had not decided on whether to do music together as a husband and wife duo, but after much prayer God would send them confirmation through their fans. “Every time we would go somewhere to perform people would say things like ya’ll apart are cool, but together it’s undeniable” Trotter says as he thinks about the decision to become a duo. After talking it over with themselves they decided to give it a try. “This journey has had it’s rough moments. There has been times to when I would wake up and say where are we at and what the heck are we doing here. Then my husband would reel me back in and assure me that we will be ok”. Blount says as she recalls BD Moments (Break Down moments). “But that’s just how life goes when your really working towards something bigger than yourself, and that is what me and Mike are doing. Working towards something bigger than ourselves.” They’re currently in the studio recording and writing for their album. By the summer we hope to release a single and tour it around the world. One thing that this journey has taught us is how to love. Not just each other and the people we are accustom to, not just those who are familiar and easy to get along with, but to love any and everything that has to do with God. For if God is responsible for the privilege of air, water, and soil, if this same God is responsible for the trees, the animals, and the grass. If this same God is the God of Heterosexuals, Homosexuals, Metrosexuals and Asexual creatures. If this same God feels the loss of an American at War, an Iraqi at War, a Sudanese or Vietnamese at War, then surely love is so much more than our personal preferences. And for this reason Trotter & Blount make music that point back to Love!
