Muhsinah is a unique talent. Whether singing, producing, or writing, this classically trained, self-made phenom is a force of nature. Effortlessly, a master of genre-bending, she fuses R&B with Rock, Electronic and Classical to form a completely unmatched, cinematic listening experience. A true artist with a true story, Muhsinah's life and experiences are unmatched as well.

Born and raised in DC, Muhsinah had an interesting, well-rounded childhood. On one hand, she was surrounded by love and family at home, on the other she was constantly faced with the realities of society at school. Muhsinah learned early on that she was different, and retreated into her imagination to find peace. Dancing and drawing were her tools of choice, until she found the piano.

Having started serious piano lessons at 11 years old, Muhsinah is all too familiar with the music of Chopin, Rachmaninov, and Mozart. She learned quickly how to read, write and play, and within the few years went on to win many competitions and play countless recitals as a classical pianist. At 14, Muhsinah auditioned and got accepted to the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, to continue her training, competing and performing constantly she was convinced she'd be a professional classical pianist. Little did she know that when she got to college, things would change.

Muhsinah studied jazz composition at Howard University and the musical world started to look completely different to her. She was open to all types of new sounds and shapes and was inspired to start singing. While at Howard, Muhsinah turned a new leaf and started writing songs, producing her own instrumentals, and recording herself. A one-woman operation, she spent all her time honing her skills, sampling her moms old records, making drum patterns and developing a vocal style all her own.

After college, on a whim, she put her music on MySpace and was surprised by all the amazing underground buzz she received, including the attention of Common, Phonte from Little Brother, Flying Lotus and Thom Yorke from Radiohead. Muhsinah appeared on Common's album "Universal Mind Control", and was even nominated for a Grammy for her vocals on "Daykeeper" with the Foreign Exchange. At this point, Muhsinah knew there was no turning back. She went on to travel all over the world, as a featured vocalist with Common and got to sing for thousands of people and many influential leaders, including president Barack Obama and Maya Angelou. Muhsinah is currently traveling again, singing background vocals for The Weeknd and in her own time, perfecting her sound.

Muhsinah, a triple-threat, is a natural force to be reckoned with and is completely dedicated to what brought her peace as a child, using her imagination, and making music. The name Muhsinah translates to "doer of good deeds". So with the wealth of talent and generosity she lends her music, she will continue to live out the meaning of her name perfectly.
