Gordon Webster Meets Hetty Kate
North American CD Release Concert

“A charismatic and technically gifted vocalist whose gorgeous timbre carries echoes of Peggy Lee, June Christy and Julie London” Chris May – All About Jazz (USA) 2011

“Like Peggy Lee on a Vespa” Marc Myers - JazzWax 2012

Pure of tone, sweet sounding and dangerously infectious, Melbourne jazz vocalist Hetty Kate has built her career fronting bands across Australia and internationally, and more recently has been embraced by Australia’s lindy hop community as a swinging vocalist and band leader with a wicked sense of humour and a big repertoire. Very much influenced by the music of the 1940s, Hetty has released four albums previously under her own name, however a busy 2014 saw the release of three new cds. As well as the lindy-hop album 'Gordon Webster Meets Hetty Kate', she released her debut under the Australian premier label ABC Jazz entitled 'Dim All The Lights' and appears on another release with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

Gordon Webster, a Canadian now living in New York City, has made his name playing for swing dancers across the globe and is often invited to Europe and Asia as well as touring regularly across the USA. Drawing on influences as diverse as Fats Waller, Count Basie, Oscar Peterson and Gene Harris, Gordon passionately serves up a smorgasbord of styles unified by one characteristic. irresistible danceability! He has released many cds under his own name, but this is his first collaborative project.

Gordon Meets Hetty is a swing jazz album that has been lovingly crafted to get dancefloors moving, and entertain dancers all around the world. Taking inspiration, and repertoire, from little heard curios from the hey day of America this features some of New York City’s finest young swing jazz players.
