EDITH PIAF AT 100: A celebration of her Centennial
EDITH PIAF AT 100: A celebration of her Centennial
New cabaret show tells Piaf’s story through song,
circus and burlesque
Myriam Phiro guides us through the decadent world of
Edith Piaf using her timeless songs to retell the life of
this iconic performer. Accompanied by a traditional
musette band and multi-disciplinary backup singers,
Ms. Phiro and the ensemble recreate the brothels,
circuses and nightclubs that created the great Piaf we
all know.

The performance lasts 60-70 minutes.
2015 marks Edith Piaf's centennial. ‘La Môme Piaf’,
as she was nicknamed, introduced America to the
world of ‘Chanson Réaliste’. Her songbook has
become classic and still engages audiences
worldwide. However, her early life is shrouded in
mystery – daughter of a circus performer, childhood in
a brothel, blind for years and ‘miraculously’ cured by a
pilgrimage St. Therese – these stories and more are
brought to life with music, dance and circus
performance in our exciting cabaret show.

Myriam Phiro is an internationally acclaimed actress,
singer and cabaret chanteuse. Piaf is Ms. Phiro’s
greatest inspiration and the reason she chose to
become a perfomer. Ms. Phiro now regularly fronts
several jazz, swing and musette bands in New York
and Montreal. She has residencies at the House of
Jazz in Montreal and Harry's New York Bar in
Montreux. New York City appearances include the
Rainbow Room, Sleep No More, the Bronx Botanical
Garden, the Back Room Speakeasy, Whynot
Jazzroom, Pravda NYC, Don't Tell Mama, Gemini &
Scorpio Events, Jalopy Theatre & Music School, and
the Triad Theatre. Myriam released her debut EP My
Rêverie in 2013 and her full-length jazz album will be
released in 2015.

Myriam Phiro's traditional musette band will be led by
accordionist/director Benjamin Ickies. Mr. Ickies is
often seen performing and directing cabaret shows
with a variety of artists including John Kelly, Kim
David Smith, Michael T and many more.

Opening band :

French-by-way-of Brooklyn, Les Sans Culottes borrowed their name from the ill-clad (i.e., long-trousered) citizen-soliders of the French Revolution. Inspired by French 1960's ye-ye pop, their sound is equal parts Serge Gainsbourg, the Kinks, and 1960's girl group pop.  Their live shows are raucous, high energy, non-stop go-go affairs. The band has released eight recordings: "Les Sans Culottes" (1999); "The Ennui and the Ecstasy" (2000); "Faux Realism" (2002); "Full Frontal Crudite - Live in Paris" (2003); "Fixation Orale" (2004); "Pataphysical Graffiti" (2007); and "The Gods Have Thirst" (2014).
