Brown Rice Family Release Party

Brooklyn based music group Brown Rice Family is releasing their second album “Havana to Kingston” on July 1st, 2015.

Brown Rice Family is a multi national band with members hailing from Japan, Jamaica, Haiti, Nigeria, South Africa and USA.

On this sophomore project, BRF fuses traditional Cuban rhythms, Jamaican folk/Mento, Ska, Nyahbinghi, Roots Reggae, Dancehall and Hip Hop to create a musical contribution for this and future generations.

Inspired by folkloric rhythms of Haiti, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, Badinba creates modern music that is firmly rooted in tradition. Co-founders Adam Hinz and Ian LeBlanc met in 2007 while studying with percussion legend John Amira. They were later joined by Chris Mariner, a guitarist with extensive experience in NYC's jazz and experimental-music scenes, and bass player Evan Ubiera, whose multi-instrumental expertise spans the musical spectrum from Dominican gagá to heavy metal to Afrobeat. Badinba’s sound is completed by Harold Agosto, a multi-talented drummer/music educator currently based in New York City and hailing from San Juan, Puerto Rico and Mónica Ortiz Rossi, who infuses her melodies with modern Latin soul vocals and the sounds of her Dominican-American upbringing.
