Singer, songwriter, producer, and actor – Carlton J. Smith presents his energetic and widely-acclaimed R&B/Soul Revue shows that have created an international following. Carlton’s spectacular stage presence and dynamic performances excite audiences all over the world from the United States to Europe and Asia.

Since 2002 Carlton has produced, hosted and performed in R&B/Soul Revues in New York City’s world-renowned B.B. King Blues Club & Grill. Initially a one-show deal, his first performance sold-out and inspired the club to book him monthly for a series of tributes to stars including Al Green, James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, Sly & The Family Stone, The Temptations, and Marvin Gaye. Carlton took the same show to The Blue Note in Las Vegas for a four-week run and then performed in the Groove Series at The Blue Note in New York City.

Other appearances

Carlton was chosen to portray the “Godfather of Soul” James Brown in Barry Levinson’s motion picture “Liberty Heights” (1999), co-starring with Joe Mantegna, Bebe Neuwirth and Adrien Brody. When James Brown died in 2006, Carlton performed in his place alongside Chaka Khan on New Year’s Eve at the B.B. King Blues Club, NYC. Carlton has also performed in the theatre, with a lead role in the Broadway musical “Largo” by award-winning writer David Henry Hwang (“Madame Butterfly” and “Aida”), appearing alongside Cyndi Lauper and Garth Hudson (of the ‘60s super group The Band).
