White Cheese

“White Cheese - New York Debut”
“White Cheese” is a mid-70’s-80’s New Wave–Reggae band from Istanbul. Since the beginning, the band played and wrote (mostly in English) about frustrated youth, environment, paranoia, pre-80’s Turkey, terror between the Left and Right, as they experienced it firsthand. Getting together after 30 years, they pretty much touch the same subjects in an ironical way while history is repeating itself in a different version!
This will be the second gig after the release performance of their first album “Whitewash” in Istanbul November 2015. There are some powerful musicians in the band. Gur Akad and Derya Bozkurt are the original members who in 1986 won the best status ever in Eurovision Song Contest for TR with their band “Klips” and the song “ Halley”. Serdar Cokuslu is the frontman of veteran Turkish heavy metal band “ Whisky” who is also the producer of the album, substituting for T.Volkan Konya, on bass. Sinan Kurtul is one of the founding members of the band along with Murad Dunbay (RIP).  With strong improvisational backgrounds, Duygu Demir on Cello and P.J. Ducker on sax joined the band last year.
This event will also have guests from Lou Reed facebook group mini convention, which has over 10.000 members, that is being held in NYC between June 3-6 and White Cheese is proud to volunteer as the band that will play some additional LR and Velvet Underground songs as well as their entire album, Whitewash.
