Banda Nueva York Valentine's Day Special

Banda Nueva York creates the energy and power of the authentic sound of the great bandas of Sinaloa, Mexico.19th century European immigrants brought their bands to Mexico and inspired the music that would grow into the Sinaloense sound that Banda Nueva York strives to recreate through a full instrumentation of trumpets, trombones, clarinets, alto horns, sousaphone, percussion and singers. Made up of the finest musicians in the city, Banda Nueva York's members perform many different styles of music in their professional lives, but it is an unwavering affection for the music of the deserts, mountains and beaches of North Western Mexico that brings them together for this ensemble. Many of us have strong connections to Mexico having lived there, been born there, grew up close by, or travelled and toured extensively throughout the country. We hope to bring this real world experience and “alma” to this great music. Members of Banda Nueva York have performed on the worlds great stages including: Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Disney Concert Hall, Hollywood Bowl, Mexico City's Palacio de Bellas Artes, Auditorio Nacional and elsewhere, with great orchestras such as the NY Philharmonic, LA Phil, Metropolitan Opera, American Symphony and Boston Symphony, on the same stage with Placido Domingo, Max Weinberg, the Temptations, Josh Groban, Lila Downs, Eugenia León, Natalia Lafourcade, Mariachi Real de México and Jarana Beat, and work regularly on Broadway and at Radio City Music Hall.
Baritone José Adán Pérez is an alumnus of LA Opera Plácido Domingo’s Opera Program, the AVA, Aspen Opera School, IVAI and SIVAM. Zachary Woolfe from The New York Times comments: "José AdánPérez had an impressive New York debut, his voice smooth, clear and rich.” After his operatic debut in LA Opera as Marcello in “La Bohème” conducted by Maestro Placido Domingo, he has performed with NY City Opera, LA Phil, LA Master Chorale, Theater Basel, Teatro M.Bellini, Bellas Artes Opera, OFUNAM, Aspen Music Fest, Cervantino Fest to mention some; singing for the batons of Plácido Domingo, James Conlon, Gustavo Dudamel, Angel Romero, Michele Mariotti, MichaelChristie, Grant Gershon, Will Humburg, Eduardo Diaz-Munoz, among several. Mr. Pérez recordings include, with LA Opera, Daniel Catán’s “Il Postino” and Schreker’s “DieGezeichneten”; Fauré’s Requiem with OFUNAM; and the recent Latin Grammy nominated opera Gabriela Ortiz’s “Únicamente la Verdad.” Before beginning his musical pursuits, Mr. Pérez, a BS from Tec deMonterrey, worked several years in the automotive industry as engineer.
