Saudades Samba Party

For the first time in New York, Saudades brings Rio de Janeiro’s top samba school director, choreographer and performer, Carlinhos Salgueiro to perform at DROM. DJ Massa will be playing Brazil’s top hits throughout the night and there will be a special performance from New York’s longest running bateria, Manhattan Samba.  Come witness the legend that is Carlinhos as he shows us what a king of samba looks like!

Carlinhos Salgueiro

Master teacher and internationally acclaimed, multi award winning artist, Carlinhos is at the top of the Samba game. Renowned as the Passista and Show director at the Salgueiro samba school, Carlinhos is also the choreographer for Rio's prestigious "King and Queen of Carnaval" competition. He has a host of accolades to his name including Best Male Destaque, Best Male Passista and the Estandarte de Ouro for Best Passista Ala (Salgueiro) in Carnaval 2017. Carlinhos Salgueiro is unquestionably the world's most sought after Samba icon.

Manhattan Samba, New York’s longest running bateria, was founded in 1990 by Ivo Araujo, a native Carioca, who grew up in the heart of Rio de Janeiro where he performed with Rio’s top Samba schools. Manhattan Samba brings to life the high energy, unique, true rhythms and passions of those samba schools from Rio’s world-famous Carnival.  Time Out Magazine alliteratively singled out Manhattan Samba as the New York group who: “…bombards your brain and booty with a battery of bumpin’ batucada beats”.
