Kingsley Ibeneche

DJ Chinua

Kingsley Ibeneche, fresh on the Philly music scene, is no stranger to the stage. Classically trained in dance, Kingsley received a degree in Ballet Performance from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and toured Europe performing modern dance shortly after graduation. In his free time making beats and writings songs, he discovered a desire to explore music deeper. His debut EP entitled "CHi” dropped in May 2017, a work that delivers a range of dynamic tones and explores hip-hop & folk beats. He has since followed  with the EP “Realms” released on Astro Nautico on February 15, 2019. The project was celebrated and acclaimed by the likes of Okayafrica, Afropunk, Okayplayer, and The Fader with sold out album release shows in Brooklyn and World Cafe Live in Philadelphia.

Formed in 2013 by bassist Amina Michele Scott and trumpeter Cyrus Nabipoor, NORUZ is a instrumental sextet out of New Orleans, LA. Influence and inspiration is drawn from heavyweights The Headhunters and Miles Davis’ Electric Band as well as modern giants Snarky Puppy and the Robert Glasper Experiment. NORUZ released their debut full-length record, The Witching Hour, on May 11, 2018; a culmination of a 5-month residency held at Three Keys inside Ace Hotel, New Orleans. The monthly event, entitled Elephant in the Room: A Night with NORUZ, provided space for the band to dive into their deep catalogue of originals while also a chance to collaborate with special guests each month. Featured artists included drummer Jamison Ross (Snarky Puppy), trumpeter Eric "Benny" Bloom (Lettuce), and vocalist Mykia Jovan, among others.

DJ Chinua is a New Orleans based DJ and event curator interested in facilitating community and connection through the music and culture of the African Diaspora. He is also the founder and co-sound selector for Ascendance, a monthly zodiac themed dance party that exalts and centers the expansiveness of black and brown identity.
