Amanda Monaco Album Release Concert

The Pirkei Avot Project performs original music by guitarist Amanda Monaco with lyrics taken from the Pirkei Avot - a collection of Rabbinic wisdom compiled in the third century. These ancient Hebrew texts, sung in their original Hebrew and Aramaic are set to modern avant-jazz, ranging from rubato tone poems to an off-kilter waltz in the style of Tom Waits. Tonight’s concert celebrates the release of their second album and first LP, Vol. 2. Joining Monaco are Tammy Scheffer (vocals), Daphna Mor (recorders), Sean Conly (bass), and Rogério Boccato (percussion).

A fixture on the New York City jazz scene, Monaco has performed at Joe’s Pub, The Jazz Standard, Birdland, Blue Note, and myriad venues in the United States, Europe, and Israel. She is an Associate Professor in Guitar at Berklee College of Music where she teaches private lessons, the Ted Dunbar Lab, and the Mingus Guitar Ensemble. Her Berklee Online course “Guitar Scales and Chord Progressions” is available for free at
